Bug Out Bag

I'm a prior CH-47 flight engineer now attending flight school. I could not have done without my "Bug Out " bag for "away" trips. As all the folks in the rotary wing community know, if you are leaving your immediate training area, you should bring an overnight bag of sorts. Legacy aircraft have a tendency to break down, and missions are ever-changing.

For years I was never with out one. Essential items!: MP3 player, ear muffs (or plugs depending on your preferance, although it easier to sleep with plugs in), travel cup, shaving gear, book, something warm (tropics or not) and my favorite - string hammock, sling it anywhere!

Troops! Remember AAFES.COM, as they stock all necessary and current "Bug-Out" brand items. As a heavy aircraft mechanic I always carried my gear in a "Bug-out" rucksack w/ camel back water resevoir. It even has loops for attaching all my savoured A.L.I.C.E. gear and then some.

A really good vendor for this sort of thing is Kifaru: I've heard nothing but good reviews of their gear. Check them out yourself: http://www.kifaru.net/

I voluntered to be line medic for a bunch -o- 11 bravos and purchased a Bug Out Bag to put my gear in and carry my medical gear. Large enough straps to fit over the flack vest, good chest straps to hold it tight and I beat the piss out of it. Best part is it was cheap, black and still in use. All for about $35. Worth every cent!!! Doc

Well, my husband never had a specific bag he just used a back pack. He called it a bingo bag though. A few years ago we got a nice back pack from LL Bean that he uses.

The bug out bag is a great piece of gear. I carried mine in Iraq for a year and lived out of it most of my trip. However, the bag pictured is NOT a bug out bag. The bags come in black, tan, and now they have a coyotee tan to match all of your other gear (if you are in the Marines)

The Bug out Bag was probably the best piece of equipment i've bought for myself. Its expendable, has several different configurations for carry from single shoulder, backpack or handle gripped from the top or the side. Expendable with sevearl storage areas. This bag made not only my life in Iraq easy, but it makes great for a carry on on comercial aircraft. My bugout bag is my second best friend. My first, ofcourse, my trusty M-4. Check out the bugout bag at the URL abouve

The terms "Bug Out" and "Bug out Bag" come from the Korean War.
Nowadays, the term has become generic. The idea that there is only one Official bug out bag is nutty.
