As any grunt knows, when you're in the field for awhile you want some clean, dry socks and drawers. Zip-Lock baggies are a real life saver. One sandwich sized baggie holds one pair of underwear and one pair of socks. When packing, simply zip the items into the bag leaving a small opening on one end.  Then either squeeze the excess air out or suck it out before sealing it all the way. This saves space in the ruck for other necessary items and ensures that after walking through chest deep swamps that you still have clean underwear for when you face the enemy (just like mom always wanted).

thought this would pop up on here sooner or later. that's the same thing they tell us for high adventure boy scout trips. but i've found that the only good bags are from ziploc. the other ones, they look sealed at first, but then they slowly take in air and expand. and it just makes things worse bcus you had your pack all nice and tighty and now it's hard to get anyhting out. so go w/ ziploc

ziploc freezer bags are larger and can hold a t-shirt and thermal shirt as well.

its a good idea to leave the zip lock bags not so full and add a zip tie or when training twist ties. ensures the bag wont come open. we all know rucks can take a beating

These bags are brilliant; you can do countless more things with them, too. Wasterproof your papers and meds if you need to, as well as clothes. Carry water, keep wounds dry, do a clean bullet extraction or use as a mouthguard for CPR. Keep track of tiny things you don't want to lose -- including severed toes. Read a map in the rain. The list goes on and on.

Put a 2-gallon ziplock bag with a complete change of clothes in your pack and you can quickly grab it when you need clean clothes. Take it to the shower and keep your clean stuff dry; the dirty clothes go in the bag afterward.
