They're a motley band of misfits, criminals, scapegoats and bullies -- or at least that's what the movies say -- but to the French, they are the quasi-official army of expendables for a government loath to get its hands dirty.

And the Sarkozy might not want to get the sand under his well-manicured fingernails, the men of the Foreign Legion aren't one bit worried about a little dust in their kepis.

They've fought every dirty war France has been involved with since 1831 and Afghanistan is no exception. Over at the Lightfighter forum, there's an awesome batch of pics from a legionnaire who just got back from a deployment in June. It's worth remembering that we're part of the coalition badassery over there and the Legion Etrangere hasn't been left out...
