OGA Cell phone Jammer by Nemo

by Brandon Webb on May 12, 2011 · 12 comments

The guys at Nemo are always up to something cool. This is an OGA on-the-belt, cell jammer pouch that Christian first reported on. Having worked with the OGA in northern Iraq, I can tell you that having something like this is crucial. I would even buy one for personal use (especially on my China visits). Very cool and worth a second look.

Hey Brandon,

How do you think it compares to LokSak's offering that's been around a while?:

I have that one but haven't gotten it in front of high sniffing gear to test it..

That video doesn't really explain the problem in a way that makes sense. Insurgents can't power up a phone remotely, so they could just as easily remove the phone from the bag if they got close enough. If the phone is in the bag, it might as well be powered off, since it won't be able to get any incoming calls. My best guess is that people were shutting off the screens on their phones but not powering it down completely.

Some crappy phones dont have removable batteries (iPhones) which is the only reliable way to shut a phone off. Many Android models get turned on with the most minor bump (poorly designed power buttons).

If you are operating in a country where the enemy controls the cell towers (Libya), you may want the extra protection.

Its also good for keeping passport, credit cards and other items with RFID chips in them or the like when operating needs require EMSEC..

These cell phone jammers are available at a very reasonable price. You can buy this cell phone jammer very easily. As this service takes nominal charges on the network, so you would need to spend a little amount to get complete peace of mind when you are not willing to get disturbed.

Not that I care, but cell-phone jammers are illegal according to the FCC. With that said, you can get some good ones via Asia and South America.

this is not a jammer. It is simply a Faraday bag, my office uses a different brand (computer / cell phone forensics) and they work quite well. Not sure what brand we use but they are less than $20.

Also, with the right equipment, it is entirely possible to remotely power up a phone. Or even listen (or inject malicious code) thru the phone even if it ‘powered off’. Obviously that would not be off the shelf software, but it is most assuredly out there. I have seen demos and it is rather impressive.

just my $0.02

Nice. In todays world of I.D. and info theft…this is probably a good Idea…where ever you may live.

Numbers of times you must be in a situation when connectivity of your devices is completely jammed and anyhow you are not able to make any sort of calls. You must be very careful at these situations because you must be connected to cell phone jammers at a distance.
