Some Details of the bin Laden Raid

According to the LA Times SEALs from DEVRGU and some CIA Special Activities Division shooters and analysts flew a combination of four MH-60 Pave Hawk and MH-47 Chinooks from "an Afghan base" (Jalalabad?/Bagram?) to the bin Laden compound in Abbottabad.

About 40 troops, largely Navy SEALs, were involved, with 24 rappelling into the compound from the hovering Chinooks. Officials said the firefight was fierce and significant.

The raid lasted about 40 minutes (which seems to me to be a pretty long time on an objective that far behind the lines) and one of the helos landed due to mechanical problems and was destroyed on site.

Best line: The U.S. troops gave Osama what was described as a brief opportunity to surrender before firing several times, at least once into the head.
