A poor man’s corner shot!

Accutact

I was intrigued when I saw this gizmo out at the range.  It’s called the Angle sight, made by Accutact.  Even the designer told me that it’s KISS simple, basically it’s a prism that allows you to hold the weapon around a corner and fire while the shooter remains behind cover.  There isn’t any need to remove or rotate it out of the way when firing normally, you can still look straight down your sights.  Take a look at the video to see how it works:

Now THAT is stupid brilliant. I can see one on every warfighter and LEO’s carbine with a flip mount.
Doh! Why didn’t I think of it!

Oooh, where can I get that Call of Duty MW3 optic?

And I thought the ZOMBIE EOtech was the most disgusting thing ever, now I have to reconsider….

The airsoft comunity has had devices like this for a while… It’s funny to see the weekend warriors coming up with the innovation instead of those of us with real steel weapons.

Got a range report on this? How hard is it to actually aim with it?

Also, curious how it would work with NV? Does a prism split IR as well as visible light?

This reminds me of a baseball player who left his TV in Venezuela because it only picked up the Spanish speaking stations.

@jrexilius: please overthink your question considering the fact that the human eye cannot see the IR spectrum.

a PVS-14 can, and one common configuration is the 14 on your helmet with the red-dot on the rifle (rather than QD mount). Thus the question: at night when you are using something like a 14 and your eotech/aimpoint (on its NV compatible setting), does the prism refraction (that enables you to see from the side) still work? It may be a stupid question but not because I think the naked eye can see IR.

There used to be devices like that for marksmanship training with iron sights. The trainee would aim the rifle, and the instructor could coach his sight picture.

Yeah, our range used to have some of those we called them “belgian sights”.
Probably a few left somewhere in the equipment hole.

Awesome and cheap idea.

Jack – Check out this link. It’s aimpoint’s version. Saw it at the Inf conf last year and sent in a fire team report.

The fact that you can look right through the sight is a HUGE advantage over Aimpoint’s. How robust did you think it was Jack?

Thanks for the link, answers the question I had about field-of-view and ease of aiming.

The KISS part is the best part of this. The s($t ain’t hard, guys, it’s just optics.

Be sure to wear a turtle-neck shirt when that ejector port is facing you.

I noticed that the video doesn’t show the pistol-mount version actually being drawn from a holster – how could it with that thing hanging off the front? “Well fellas, better mount up those Anglesights(tm) before we go in here… this house has corners…”.

THAT is what I’d call elegant and robust!!! That is one of the great things about our mil folks keeping an eye on airsoft players and precision long arm competition developments! Terrific!

if it proves to be effective and robust, then why not? the advantage of rapidly acquiring targets without exposing yourself is extremely advantageous in a tactical environment.
