A Pack for Your AT-4

by admin on August 30, 2012 · 11 comments

Yesterday Brad Walker gave us an overview of the Mystery Ranch BASE Frame. Turns our among their other new pieces of kit is a pack that will carry a Barrett .50, an AT-40 or something of similar size: the Mystery Ranch Overload. Read more about it here.

Perfect for a nice little day hike through the Hindu Kush…

We just kept our AT-4′s in my wardrobe closet at KAF. Seriously.

Awesome. Now the real question, what is the likely hood of a unit actually purchasing those for their guys because no one will shell out the cash on their own just to be able to carry an AT-4.

If you read the actual article, it’s not so much that you can carry an AT4, it’s that you can secure all kinds of heavy stuff to a pack. .50 Barrett, pieces of a mortar, AT-4, etc.

Though in fairness, an AT4 pouch for your LBE would be sweet.

Great write up. But until they start selling AT4 or mortar at my local Gander Mountain or Bass Pro, I won’t be getting this pack anytime soon. For the Barrett, wish I have $10,000 to spend :(

Attempting to assail a mountain with the weight so away from the torso will be very dangerous and perilous. In the IDF we use a solid frame and attach pouches to it to configure a hollow to fit the load from stingers to TOW to comms. I think our way is swifter cheaper and lighter on the carrier since there is no excess distance between the load and the body.

A rider may forget he is on a horse but the horse never forgets the rider on his back. 

Nope. You’re thinking of the USMC-issued pack, the FILBE, with its plastic 1606 frame made by Down East. When you’re sick of it, the Mystery Ranch NICE frame fits the FILBE perfectly.
