MRLogoMystery Ranch’s New VLAK and IFAK – First Look: Part 1

Brad Walker

I always try to stay in touch with the guys at Mystery Ranch because it seems like they always have some really cool new products coming down the line. So at SHOT Show this year, I made it a point to  meet up with Ryan from MR. He was eager to show off two of their very new and still unreleased first aid kits, the VLAK (Vehicle Litter Aid Kit) and IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit).

Both kits are a basic mirror image of one another, with the VLAK being the “big brother” in this case and remaining quite a bit larger. The VLAK is more suited for [as it says] vehicle operations and larger casualty situations, but can be used in a number of other operations. Units or individuals could easily use the VLAK to substitute for their standard CLS (Combat Lifesaver Bag) (pending command authorization – never waiver from SOP without approval), or it could also be used as an intermediate medical range bag…just a couple of examples. The IFAK [being an individual kit] is more suited for the end user’s personal gear such as being affixed to body armor, a bag or pack or even a modern battle belt. Either of the two will set you up for complete success, but paired together and used in conjunction, the user will have an extensive set of complete medical provisions.

Mystery Ranch is also partnering with North American Rescue to provide all of the medical kit to outfit their new additions. The brass at MR have informed me that they are still in the early R&D stages and don’t have any concrete information to put out on the exact contents that will be included with the NAR upgrade, but the pictures lend a pretty good idea of what to expect.

We’ll also be doing a Part 2 of the VLAK/IFAK as the product launches and is put into production for purchase.
