"The Monkey" has announced his first pack design - the "Adapt Pack."

Based on the Tactical Tailor Removable Operator Pack (ROP), MSM (MilSpec Monkey) made a few design changes he thought might improve it for his intended needs. He wanted it to be an ambidextrous, lightweight pack with modularity and the ability to compartmentalize and organize equipment both military and civilian users might carry on a daily basis.

It is a nice size; somewhere between EDC pack and small assault pack, with the added benefit of wearing it like a messenger bag if preferred.

As usual with MSM's gear, it's well thought out and laden with features. The Removable Operator Pack is a very good, simple design, but these modifications appear to have improved it. MSM has modular pouches that could be added to it. I will probably use Blue Force Gear DAPPERS for mine, as if I don't over-organize my gear I almost always under-find (and frequently never-find) what I need.

Features of the Adapt Pack, which is 500D Cordura, include the ability to set it up for 2-strap or 1-strap carry, ambidextrously and the following:

  • Shock cords on the front

  • Two stretch pockets in the primary compartment

  • Zippered access to the front pocket from both sides

  • Internal loop Velcro lining in the forward compartment for additional modularity/added subloads

  • Cross strap capability for single-strap carry

  • 1-in buckle sternum straps placed that can be run above or below the bust for female wearers

  • Can be attached to a larger pack or to body armor with attachments that can be tucked away

  • Large loop Velcro field for morale patches, ID tags, etc.

  • Cord ports to either side of the drag handle (vs. a single port in the middle with the ROP)

  • MALICE clips with PALS webbing on top for attaching to a larger pack or body armor

  • Should straps no longer utilize D-rings

Total weight: 1.75lbs.
Main Pocket: 17" tall x 9.5" wide x 5.5" deep
Front Pocket: 14" tall x 8" wide x 2.5" deep
Total Volume: 1,178.25 cu. in.

With the thought that went into the design (and the fact that it's made in the USA), the Adapt definitely looks to be worth the $99 retail price. I know there are some "Monkey-haters" out there, who decry his "lack of background" and the fact that he has no operational experience and therefore cannot contribute to the tactical industry. Frankly I think that's laughable, and has no bearing whatsoever on the qualities of his designs. If we followed that logic, we'd miss out on a lot....or were Richard Gatling and Hiram Maxim combat veterans and nobody told me?

My guess is the pack will stand or fail on its own merits. We're going to do some traveling with one and try to tear it up - more on that after we've had time to abuse it.

Meantime if you don't want to wait, order one here (http://milspecmonkey.com/store/packs-bags/341-msm-adapt-pack.html).
