He overlooked the British ‘Crocodile’ flame tanks used in WWII Europe.
Also, flame operators were hated and feared, singled out by the enemy whenever possible. In Europe, captured flame-tank crews were often executed out-of-hand.

During infantry training in 1961 I got to fire a man packed flame thrower It was interesting but I really felt for the guys that had to carry that beast. During training in Saudi Arabia prior to “Desert Storm” I recommended we use flame throwers to clear the trenches of Iraqi troops. A Ltcol shrugged and walked away shaking his head.

Too short ranged and dangerous for the user. A stray bullet hit the tanks and the human torch! The M202 4 shot flame launcher is a great idea, safer, more range. It was and is a frightful weapon but minimally usefull today.
