Crye Precision’s AVS 1000 Pack

Crye Precision’s AVS 1000 Pack is starting to show up at your favorite gear sites. Crye unveiled it SHOT Show in January – Expensive, but like all Crye products, worth checking out.

“The AVS1000 Pack is a streamlined, lightweight assault pack designed to provide the user with a variety of access and attachment options,” according to Crye officials. “It can be configured as a standalone pack, a rear plate bag replacement, or attached directly to the plate carrier (virtually any vest) to allow quick access without redundant pack straps.”

The AVS 1000 features a removable frame sheet, bottle holder designed for .75 liter bottles and smaller and a hydration bladder sleeve. It has three medium-sized pockets with exterior access, one inward-expanding medium-sized pocket and externally sewn compression straps.

It’s available in MultiCam, Coyote, Ranger Green and Black. It retails for about $250.

I am sure it is a nice, well made pack. At the end of the day though, I just can’t justify spending that much on a pack, especially with all the lower cost/high quality products out there.

It sure would be nice if they listed the capacity (ci) and dimensions somewhere. I couldn’t find those details anywhwere on the Crye site.

It’s most likely 1000 cubic inches. Probably why they call it the AVS 1000 Pack. Call me old-school, but give me the BLACKHAWK 3 Day Assault Pack any day. After 16 years of hard use it still looks new, plus twice the capacity.

While I really like the Form-factor of this pack(slim) – I recently purchased an Eagle Industries MultiCam® Assaulter’s Back Pack(BP-A-ERP-MS-5CCA) and in spite of this Eagle Assaulter’s pack being a bit wider than the Crye Precision AVS 1000 pack, it came with three accessory pouches and ultimately gives me more ‘quick-grab’ and storage options than the Crye AVS !000. However, exactly like Crye Precision AVS 1000 pack, my Eagle Industries Assaulter’s pack is 100% quality-made in the USA. Had the Crye Precision AVS 1000 pack been available at the time I bought my Eagle Industries Assaulter’s pack – making the choice between the two would’ve been….difficult.
