Military.com’s Kit Up blog is back online after a challenging transition period that involved redesigning the website and moving it to a new server.

The process took longer than anticipated and resulted in unexpected publishing challenges.

We have worked hard over the years to build a large and loyal group of readers here at Kit Up and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We thank you for your patience during this transition.

We will now renew our efforts to bring you news, commentary, reviews and interesting tidbits about standard-issue kit and beyond.

Please continue to be patient with us as we work out any kinks in the new system, but feel free to comment or contact us directly if you spot any issues or have any recommendations about the user experience.

Brendan, this is not directed at you but at your web development / IT staff, but since you asked for feedback…

It would have been nice to let your reading public know that you were doing some upgrades. That explains the horrible response time the site has had for the past several days.

It looks like the they didn’t do very thorough testing because the comments for each post don’t show until you get back into October, so a whole month worth of comments didn’t get copied over, or the software that pulls the content for each post is doing something different for November and December.

The fields for entering information on your “We Need Intel!” webpage are missing, so we can’t tell you anything good or bad.

Nothing at all under the Archives tab on the top menu bar.

The link under your “About Kitup!” tab on the top menu bar takes you the “Your Hosts” webpage.

Is there really only ONE article about Load-Bearing Equipment, because that is all that the link on the second menu bar found? The Protective Gear tab didn’t find anything. I think your IT folks need to go back and a better job of indexing the articles or changing the search parameters to find articles the list of topics in the second menu bar.

Also, they may want to add some more of the old categories to the menu bar, or have tab for “Other topics…” that gives the full list.

The link under TEAMMATES! on the right hand column does take you to the “We Need Intel!” page, but the “Give us the Gouge!” just takes you to the page you were on.

All in all, I do like the new look, but IT needs to put someone who is independent of the development team in place to do a thorough test of the new site design and content. You guys are better than this, but this begs more jokes about lowered performance standards in the miltary(.com).

Does anybody know what type of ruck they’re using in that picture up above?

  • Larry

They look like coyote tan ALICE packs to me. Both units are in the TX National Guard, so older equipment makes sense.

    • Brainard

More likely personally purchased, upgraded ALICE packs, as even cooks have MOLLE packs by now.

  • John

Those are Tactical Tailor MALICE packs. Not old.
