Matthew Cox

Matthew Cox has been a defense writer since 1998 and is an associate editor for Military.com.

The bulk of Matthew’s experience comes from working 12 years for Army Times, the largest of the Military Times publications. As a senior staff writer, he reported and wrote investigative stories about the successes and failures of Army weapons development and procurement, body armor testing, camouflage, ammunition and readiness and training issues.

Matthew traveled to Afghanistan and Iraq numerous times from 2002 to 2008, covering Stryker and light infantry platoons in combat.

Matthew also spent four years in the U.S. Army during the second half of the 1980s, serving as an infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division.

Brendan McGarry

Brendan McGarry is an award-winning reporter and editor for Military.com. He writes breaking news and feature stories on a range of topics, from the Pentagon budget and major weapons programs, to troop pay and benefits, to military training exercises and industry conferences, including the Paris Air Show. He also helps direct news coverage and edit stories by staff.

Before joining Military.com, Brendan worked at Bloomberg News, where he covered defense contracting, military space launch and other issues. He also worked at Gannett Government Media, where he helped produce special projects on such topics as the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, the rising use of pain and psychiatric medication in the military, and disparities in the number of top medals awarded during the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His articles have appeared in The Washington Post, Bloomberg Businessweek and other publications. He has appeared on C-Span, Fox News and other television and radio networks to discuss his work. He received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y., and a master’s degree in journalism and public affairs from American University in Washington, D.C.

David Reeder

David Reeder has a been a “tactical writer” for a little over a decade, writing mostly technical work and fiction before that. He is the Associate Editor for Kit Up! and also contributes to Under the Radar and Defense Tech. David has written for a number of traditional ‘print’ publications, primarily on the topics of visual track interpretation (combat/tactical tracking) and room clearing/MOUT.

A self-described POG, David is a former AF Security Forces SNCO and civilian LEO with assignments in operations/patrol, EST, Training, PIO (Public Information Officer), a multi-jurisdictional DTF (Drug Task Force) and SWAT. His last active duty assignment was as NCOIC Operations of an AETC Squadron and most recent training involvement was as a Joint Service Combat Tracking instructor on an MTT (Mobile Training Team) traveling to several Marine, Army and Air Force installations.
