Heat in the Field

I use this almost every time I go into the field. It is almost the exact same size as a Nalgene bottle, but it will do all kinds of things: boil water, heat soup, melt snow, whatever. It also has lots of cool attachments that allow you to use it as a skillet, etc. This kit is well worth the money.

The thing is a life saver. It is also small. The fuel bottle and the actual burner pack into the the black "mug". It's small, reliable, and will boil water for coffee, cocoa, etc. quicker than almost anything out there.

you can get this at rei but for a little more ($40) yo could get a MSR XGK EX Stove and it runs on white gas, low-grade kerosene, auto fuel, Stoddard solvent, aviation (AV) gas, diesel #1 and naphtha and its smaller. But don't take my word take Backpaker magizene's they said "This enduring multifuel stove is back and badder than ever . . . the XGK is our choice when the mercury slips way below freezing or we head overseas where fuel choices are limited." you could order this at rei (Recreational Equipment Inc., or somthing like that) ar at many camping stores and its msr.

This unit might be good for a overnight hiking trip. But for the military, it should qualify for further field testing before issuing. to determine its capabilities and reliabilities.

. Although the "Jet Boil" is an Excellent Limited use Personal Stove it has a Major Limitation. It's "Fuel Canister" is hard to get in some US Locations much less in Overseas Combat Locations.
A much better Purchase is any of the MSR Multi-Fuel Stoves for about the same price. The Major benefit is they will burn just about anything from Auto Gas, Keroscene, Diesal, Jet Fuel ect. Which is more readily available than "Canister's" for the Jet Boil.
I have several of the MSR Stoves and they are Excellent and proven by Outdoorsmen all over the World from Mt Everest to Middle East Desserts to South American Jungles. Proven by Outdoorsman and our Military alike.

Both of the following are functional.
However, the "Jet Boil" is a good limited use personal stove it has a major disadvantage --- fuel canisters.
A better buy is any of the
MSR (multi-fuel stoves).
Fuel is not a problem to obtain.

Re: military use, the Jetboil will take a lot of abuse and the form factor is great for people who are in the field a lot.
It is tough to get started in a high wind, however.

Primus is really old and really reliable. I still use one that dates from 1946. It will burn almost anything. That said: The MSR stoves are all that anyone will ever need from deserts to glaciers. They burn vodka, mogas, JP5, Jet A, kerosene, avgas, diesel, etc. Never tried whale oil, but used power steering fluid once!

TRY TO HAVE MOMMY DROP SHIP ONE OF THESE AND SEE HOW FAR IT GETS.......... HAZARDOUS SHIPPING IN TODAYS SECURITY ENVIRONMENT IS JUST ABOUT IMPOSSIBLE. NICE TO LOOK AT BUT IT WONT SORK PAST THE 1ST CANNISTER WHEN YOOU RUN OUT OF THOSE LITTLE CUTE BLUE FUEL THINGS.........SORRY!

"..First used over a century ago by Irish gypsies and Irish fishermen, a Kelly Kettle will boil water in just a few minutes, depending on the fuel.
Made from aluminum, it is essentially a double-walled chimney with the water contained in the chimney's double wall....

I've used an older model MSR multi fuel for well over 30 years ... you can't beat it, period.
Light compact and always works ...on anything that happens to be handy that's liquid and flammable ...
