BFG's new NSN

If you hadn't heard already, Blue Force Gear was recently awarded an NSN for the Vickers Combat Applications Sling (VCAS).

"The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has assigned National Stock Number 1005-01-604-0627* to the Vickers Combat Applications Sling™. During combat trials in Afghanistan in 2011, U.S. Marines validated the VCAS™ as the issue sling for their new M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle as delivered by Heckler & Koch.  These slings will join over 100,000 other Blue Force Gear slings already in use across every branch of service.  The USMC has also fully authorized this sling for use on M4, M4A1 and M16 series rifles and Blue Force Gear offers attachments to connect the VCAS to these weapons as well as other internationally produced small arms."

The VCAS was developed in conjunction with Larry Vickers (a name familiar with most of the readership here), a quick-adjust 2-point slings with a reputation for remaining free of snags. The rear portion "can  be simply and securely adjusted for wear over body armor, load bearing equipment, and bulky clothing [but] the real magic happens at the front of the sling where a quick tug on the custom adjuster changes the length instantly to adapt to changing shooting positions.  Most importantly, when the sling is tightened there is no tail or excess material to cause a snag or trip".
